Salem County First Timer Hooks Monster Striper

Delaware Bay – Jackie Ciarlante took her daughter, Angela Ciarlante, out on her first ever striper fishing trip on Friday April 18, 2014. Jackie is a resident of Quinton and Angela is going to school at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.

The mom and daughter team did more than just enjoy themselves on the beautiful day out on the Delaware Bay; they caught two great sized stripers! Jackie caught a 34” fish after about ten minutes of anchoring up. Then approximately 10 minutes later, Angela hooked a monster.

It took her nearly 25 minutes to reel the fish in but as they netted the fish they were overwhelmed with excitement! “When we netted this fish we were high five’n and yelling and screaming in excitement!” said Jackie Ciarlente. The striper came in at  47.5 lb 46″ with a 26” girth.

Their weigh in was taken at Shag’s Bait & Tackle. And Angela’s picture is in their shop, which is where the two bought their bait and tackle.

New Jersey’s record sized stripers are:

New Jersey (Fresh) 51 lbs 48″ Great Egg Harbor River John Christian 4/26/2002

New Jersey (Salt) 78 lbs 8 oz 53″ Atlantic Ocean – Atlantic City Al McReynolds 9/21/82
