The Salem County Office on Aging is providing a grant to the YMCA to offer special free fitness classes for senior beginning April 1, 2014 and running through Dec. 31.
One class will be offered each morning, and the roster includes strength and range of motion, shallow water fitness, shallow water aerobics, joint freedom shallow water fitness, and deep water fitness. The classes run from 45 to 60 minutes.
The Salem County Office on Aging and Disability Resource Connection is making the funds available through the Older Americans Act Grant.
“Everyone likes to feel healthy and strong,” said Freeholder Bob Vanderslice. “As we get older, it is important to maintain our range of motion, muscle tone, and flexibility. These free classes are an important way to achieve that goal.”
“Seniors do not have to be a member of the YMCA to register for these special classes. There is no monthly membership fee. They truly are free classes,” said Freeholder Director Julie Acton. “Seniors can sign up for any or all of the five classes.”
Funded jointly through the Salem County Board of Chosen Freeholders, the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior
Services, Title III of the Older Americans Act, as amended and NJTransit.
A person must be 60 years or older and a Salem County resident to participate in the program.
